Class Changes in December

We have some changes to our regular classes for December, this means there will be no Improvers class or Dawns Den in December, but we have some alternatives for you to enjoy:

  • Thursday 6th December, Becky and Alex (Lindy Hoppers who can fly!) will be bringing you an evening of Aerials. This will start at 8.30pm and replaces both our Improver and Dawns Den classes, the Fundamentals class will be running as normal at 8.30pm. If you wish to take part in the aerials class you must find a partner as we will not be rotating partners. You should also have completed at least a couple of beginner blocks and have started to social dance.
  • Thursday 13th December, we have Rhythm Tapper Extraordinaire Shyrleen, who will be wowing us with her skills in a tap dance taster class. The Tap Taster will be running from 7.30pm to 9pm, and our usual Fundamentals class will be at 8.30pm.

LLC will be having a break over Christmas so there will be no classes on Dec 20th and 27th, and Jan 3rd we will back as normal on Jan 10th.

What's On

Weekly Classes and Social Dances

Our regular classes are held every Thursday in Lancaster at Our Lady's Catholic College, Morecambe Rd, Lancaster LA1 2RX. See our classes page for full information.

Monthly Jam Circle

Come and join Lancaster Lindy Circle and Bay Balboa for our regular dose of Sunday evening fun and games at the Gregson, with all the swing dancing, jazz and fine company that your heart could desire. We aim to host this event every month where we do not have another  major social dance planned. Check our calendar or Facebook page for dates.

We will kick off the night with a Swing Dance taster class at 7pm for absolute beginners - perfect for non-dancing friends, new dancers and anyone wanting to see what all the Lindy Hop fuss is about!

From 7.30pm we'll have three straight hours of swinging tunes for dancing your socks off to, along with the usual cakey nibbles to keep energy levels up! £3 on the door, or £2 for concessions (students/retired/benefits).

We run workshops and other longer events during the course of the year.

Strictly Swing Winter Ball - 14th Dec 2018

Lancaster Lindy Circle and Bay Balboa are thrilled to be co-hosting a swing dance ball with live music and a Strictly Come Dancing-style competition. All proceeds will go to CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria! Put on your Gatsby-style glad-rags, dig out your best dancing shoes and come to relive the glamour of the 1930s and 1940s, all for a great cause. You don't need to be a dancer to come and enjoy this event - everyone is welcome and who knows, you might even pick up a dance step or two from our friendly Lancaster swing dancers! So, join us in aid of a great cause, and celebrate the 80th anniversary of swing music going mainstream. This will be a great festive night out, so why not bring along your family or workmates for a Christmas knees up?

Music and Dancing

There will be live music from Martyn Nelson and the Rhythm Remedies, a talented band of jazz musicians from Birmingham playing Classic Jazz standards specifically for swing dancers. The Rhythm Remedies travel all around the country playing at big swing dance events, so they really know how to put on a show! Our best local swing DJs will also be playing vintage music from the 1920s-1940s including Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald and Benny Goodman - lots of tunes you will recognise and some you might not!

Local dancers will be dancing the night away in vintage styles such as the Lindy Hop from 1930s Harlem and Balboa from 1930s Southern California. It doesn't matter if you don't know these dances, or even if you feel like you have two left feet. Just enjoy the atmosphere and get up and move to the music if the mood takes you 🙂 If you feel inspired to learn to dance after the event - and we hope that some of you will, because it is great fun and exercise - then pick up one of our flyers and come and join our inclusive, beginner-friendly classes in the New Year.

Charity and Strictly-style Competition

Our whole evening is aimed at raising funds for our truly excellent local charity, CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to CancerCare, cake sales and a proportion of bar sales will also go to CancerCare. Members of the CancerCare community have been busy learning to swing dance with us, and have been partnered with local dancers to compete in a Strictly Come Dancing-style competition mid-way through the evening. Come for the drama, performance, and to support people performing dance for the first time in aid of a great cause.

Food and drink

Lytham Fizz will be there with a full licenced bar, including a special cocktail and mocktail designed specifically for the evening. Cake will be provided on the evening for a small donation to CancerCare.
